A Fresh Take on FreshDirect
When I joined FreshDirect as a Senior Designer, the brand was at a standstill for several years already. Despite being an early innovator in online grocery delivery, FreshDirect’s visual identity and digital experience hadn’t evolved in years. My mission, as part of a newly formed brand team, was to reignite the company’s creative direction and modernize its presence across every touchpoint, from its website to its delivery trucks.
The Challenge
The brand had strong name recognition but lacked energy and cohesion. The website felt dated and cluttered, social media engagement was stagnant, and physical brand assets (like trucks and merch) no longer reflected the quality and innovation FreshDirect represented.
We needed to:
Redesign the website for modern users and mobile behavior.
Refresh all physical and digital branding with a unified design system.
Restore excitement and cultural relevance through daily creative content.
Design Leadership Across Channels
As Senior Designer, I worked across digital, print, and environmental design. My work included:
Website Redesign: Collaborated on the UX and creative direction for the new site (currently live). Introduced a modular design system for cleaner navigation, stronger visuals, and storytelling that highlights freshness and local sourcing.
Truck Wrap Campaign: Designed the new fleet wraps that turned every delivery truck into a moving billboard. The designs reflected the new brand identity and increased visibility across NYC.
Content Creation: Directed and designed daily social media assets, email campaigns, and product videos to bring life and consistency to the brand voice.
Merchandising & Collateral: Created cohesive designs for branded bags, uniforms, and promotional materials to extend the new identity offline.
Campaign Creative: Developed playful, buzzworthy concepts like the “Space Salt” April Fools’ parody and the “Lobster Party” rap video, which drew major engagement spikes and reinforced FreshDirect’s approachable, fun side.
The Transformation
Our team rebuilt FreshDirect’s brand system from the ground up—from pixels to packaging.
Before: The brand was utilitarian, functional, and safe.
After: FreshDirect became vibrant, human, and relevant again.
The new design language celebrated freshness and local connection, while our storytelling introduced humor, community, and emotional resonance. Every visual decision, color, photography, typography, animation, was chosen to express energy and optimism.
Results
Within the first full year of the relaunch, FreshDirect saw a 30% increase in growth, marking its strongest performance in years.

Social media engagement rose significantly through consistent visual storytelling.
Brand visibility and recognition improved citywide thanks to the redesigned truck fleet.
